I purchased two of these on Amazon about a year ago and have put both through a couple of filling/emptying cycles. On one of the tanks, the guage appeared stuck at half full on the initial filling, but after using the propane in it and refilling, the gauge registered full when the tank was full, so both are working as they are supposed to.
There is some mechanism inside the tank that causes the gauge needle to move; they are not just a toy.
I gauge my tank's fill state by weighing them. While the gauges are useful, they aren't vital to me.
What a fantastic find! We were ecstatic to find this tank on Amazon as these little guys are not commonplace, they are hard to find in stores. We are RVers and we have a travel size grill that we take along with us. We had been using the small green propane tanks (16 oz) that you can buy in the store, however, they do not last long and it gets to be costly having to buy them all the time. On the flip side, we prefer not to lug around a large propane tank either as it takes up too much room when traveling, not to mention they are larger than our grill. We decided to search for the miniature version of the large tanks as it’s the perfect solution for a travel grill or any other equipment you may be using (lanterns, etc) and takes up very little room. The tank has proven its mettle, it works awesome. Designed exactly like the large ones, they are a mirror image (see pictures). It cost a whole $2.50 to fill it at our local warehouse store, didn't exactly break the bank (may cost more at other places). Talk about a cost savings especially compared to the green tanks in the store that cost $10 for a 2-pack. It does come with a gas gauge which is great as we can track usage. I can’t say enough about this tank, it is truly an outstanding product. We definitely won’t hesitate to purchase again. As far as I’m concerned the price is worth the convenience. Highly recommended!
I have it mounted on my Overland trailer I am building and so far so good. I havent used it yet but install was straightforward and seem well built. of note, it does NOT come with any method to mount it but I got mine at home depot for a very reasonable price
